Formation of Class Groups
Criteria and timeline for forming class groups at each educational stage.
At the start of the school year, all pupils are distributed into as many groups as the School has assigned class lines, unless extraordinary circumstances require splitting or merging these groups.
Distribution timeline
To encourage pupils' socialisation, groups are redistributed periodically following this timeline:
- Pupils in the first cycle of Early Years (1-2 years old): will remain in the same group throughout the cycle.
- At the start of the second cycle of Early Years (3-5 years old), pupils are distributed among all groups, remaining in the same group throughout the cycle.
- At the start of each cycle of Primary Education (Years 1, 3 and 5), pupils are redistributed among all groups again, remaining in the same group for both years of the cycle.
- At the start of each year of Compulsory Secondary Education, pupils are redistributed among all groups.
- In Baccalaureate, the main criterion for forming groups is grouping by academic pathway and optional subjects.
Criteria for forming groups
The following criteria are taken into account when forming groups:
- The report prepared by the previous year's form tutors and the Guidance Department on the pupils and any conflicts detected inside or outside the classroom during the year.
- The most balanced possible distribution of pupils with Specific Educational Support Needs and/or learning difficulties.
- The most balanced possible distribution of pupils by curricular competence, with a similar number of pupils in each group according to performance and autonomy.
- The most balanced possible distribution of pupils presenting behavioural issues that affect group coexistence and/or interfere with normal class development.
- The most balanced possible distribution of male and female pupils.
- Siblings in the same year will be placed in different groups, except in exceptional situations requiring stable coexistence groups or where a psycho-medical report recommends otherwise.
